INTRODUCTION

The Vision 2000 Plus Strategic Plan was developed in 1994 to identify priority projects in six foundation areas necessary to provide a competitive advantage in the growth and development of the Tyler metropolitan area.

This five-year update reports on the progress made in these areas since the document was prepared:

  • Education
  • Economy
  • Quality of Life
  • Government
  • Infrastructure
  • Leadership

There were 17 priority projects ranked by members of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, Tyler Economic Development Council, Heart of Tyler/Main Street and local elected officials. The ballot was designed in a manner that weighted the votes by giving 10 votes to a voter's first choice, 9 votes to a second choice, 8 for a third, etc. Approximately 1,864 ballots were mailed and 414 were returned for a 22% return.

The progress made in implementing these priorities over the past five years is summarized in this update.
