St. Lucie has a VISION
for its future. This VISION for Fort Pierce, Port
St. Lucie, St.
Lucie Village and the unincorporated areas defines the St.
Lucie of 2010
and beyond. This VISION provides:
-
An
education system
and business partnership that
provides a work force competitive in the global economy;
-
An uncompromised
quality of
life
for all ages
and cultures
to live,
learn, work, and play;
-
A
public/private partnership that creates a political and
business
climate conducive to
economic
development
and
high quality
job growth while protecting our natural environment;
-
Infrastructure
that
supports the education, quality of life,
and economic development VISIONS;
-
Streamlined
government
with minimum
duplication of
services; and
-
A
public/private partnership providing the
leadership
to
achieve our shared VISION
for education, quality of life, . economic development, infrastructure,
and government,
This VISION was developed based on the
"strategic
thinking" of two groups. The general
public was invited to a Visioning Summit
on March 18, 1995. Approximately 140
citizens provided input and helped to
define the
beginnings
of our VISION.
In addition to
the Visioning Summit, a 171
member Task
Force, individuals from throughout the county with diverse backgrounds
and a broad range of knowledge,
met in April and
May of 1995. This Task Force used input from the Visioning Summit and
other sources in order to develop draft:
Benchmarks by
which to measure our
progress;
VISIONS for Education, Quality of
Life, Economic
Development, Infrastructure,
Government, and
Leadership; and Strategies
further defining
these VISIONS. The media
involved every
interested citizen through its
coverage. On June
22. 1995 a town meeting
gave everyone a
final opportunity to provide
input for our
VISION.
This VISION
is a picture of the St. Lucie of the future; a
county and
cities which approach 2010 with the competitive advantage to provide its
citizens with the quality of life they expect and deserve. The VISION
is
bold.
The
Fort
Pierce Tribune
called the
VISION "the collective wisdom and dreams of
a lot of people.
who have through their leadership
experience shown their personal
desire to make
the county a better place in
which to live
and work." The VISION will
become reality as
it is shared by the citizens
and
organizations of the county. The Port St.
Lucie News
recognized that we are "All part
of a countywide 'visioning process'
trying to come up with a
blueprint to improve the economy and quality of life."
We invite each of
you to adopt this VISION and identify individual strategies that
you will
commit to make reality.
