PENNSYLVANIA

In 1999, as a % of the United States per capita income, the Philadelphia PMSA per capita income was 114%, the Pittsburgh MSA-103%, Harrisburg MSA-101% and Pennsylvania without these three MSAs was 86%

§ The Pennsylvania part of the Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg MSAs was 56% of the Pennsylvania population in 1999.

§ Philadelphia and Pittsburgh were flat in the 1990s while Harrisburg declined

§ The rest of the state has declined 6% since 1977.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL-The home of St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, World Golf Village, PGA Tour and Pro-Tennis Tour is our 52nd Vision driven Strategic Planning client community. St. Johns County had a population of 123,135 in 2000, up 46.9% from 1990 and a very high per capita income at 131.9%% of the United State in 1999. St. Johns ranked 61st of 3,110 counties in per capita income.

The Founding Vision Partners are the St. Johns County Commission and the Chamber of Commerce.

 

SAGINAW, MI-Saginaw County Vision 2020 currently has 190 Vision Partners and eight Alliances in place. The Saginaw Chamber of Commerce led two city visits during the summer to Detroit and Lansing. The most impressive Alliance has set March 2002 as the target for completion of a countywide land use plan. This includes Saginaw County and 37 municipalities working as volunteers to develop the plan. Their First Annual Implementation Review Meeting is January 24, 2002.

 

SCHUYLKILL, PA-The Schuylkill Technology Incubator continues to receive funding. They received an additional $150,000 in August 2001. The Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation is leading the $818,000 renovation of a building for the incubator.

 

UNION COUNTY, NC-Union Vision 2020 will have an annual implementation review on November 8, 2001. Vision Partners will review progress on Strategy implementation, review the Key Benchmarks and plan for 2002.

 

CABARRUS, NC-Envision Cabarrus has completed Phase I of the Vision Process. The completed Vision document can be reviewed http://www.envisioncabarrus.org/ . Richard Flowe is the new Envision Cabarrus Chairman.

 

YAKIMA, WA-The draft Upper Valley Vision is available for public input until January 14, 2002. It will be on the web site at http://www.uppervalleyvision.net/

 

MINOT, ND-The Minot Vision’s annual implementation review public meeting was held on September 25, 2001. A large group heard a review of the Key Benchmarks and progress by Vision Partners on individual strategies. The B-52 Bombers of the Minot Air Force are involved in the war effort.

 

LAKELAND, FL-The second annual implementation report of the Metro Lakeland Vision was printed as an insert in the Lakeland Ledger on September 18, 2001. The report featured the Key Benchmark review and successes in "Mentoring", "Focus of Leadership", "Imaging", and "Annexation". One of the Key Benchmarks was the result of the annual "Racial Harmony Survey".

 

CURACAO, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES-Vishon Kors?u held 14 two-hour education sessions in October to continue introducing the Vision to the community. These courses will continue until May 2002 so that they will involve the "grass roots" in Vision Kors?u and provide a broad range of productivity improvement information for individuals.

 

WILKES, NC-In June 2001, Wilkes County, Wilkesboro, and North Wilkesboro voted to adopt the "Economic Development Investment Policy". A Vision 20/20 Strategic Alliance began the process of developing a policy in December. This was a response to the closing of several businesses and the increasing unemployment rate.

 

HAMPTON ROADS, VA-This major military center has received a $20 million United States grant to fund military career centers. The three-year grant will fund the creation of up to five "One-Stop" centers to provide career-transition assistance to personnel separating from the military. The grant will be received by a partnership of the Hampton Roads Workforce Development Board and the Greater Peninsula Workforce Investment Board.

 

 

CARLISLE, PA-Carlisle is to be the home of the "Army Heritage Center". Construction begins in November 2001. The center will include the Army Heritage Museum, the Military History Institute and a national education center. The economic impacts for the Harrisburg region are estimated to be $776 million from 2000 through 2009.

 

MEMPHIS, TN-The NBA Grizzlies have moved to Memphis. Memphis and Shelby County have provided $250 million to build a new state of the art basketball arena. For the first two years, the Grizzlies will play in the Pyramid, an existing 20,142-seat arena. Last year’s college player of the year, Shane Battier was their first draft pick.

 

JACKSONVILLE, FL-The Chamber of Commerce’s annual city visit was to Nashville, TN in October 2001. The three-day trip attracted 120 business and government leaders

 

TUSCALOOSA, AL- On November 8 and 13th, "Challenge 21" is having meetings of organizations who endorsed the principle of the Vision in 1996 and are helping in implementation as Vision Partners.

 

RAPID CITY, SD-The "FRONTIERS" Vision Team is expanding the scope of implementation and enhancing their web site.

 

GWINNETT, GA-Construction began in June on a new 13,100 –seat arena and a 21,800 square ft ballroom. This is a major $90 million addition to the Gwinnett Civic and Cultural Cente.r

 

ATLANTA, GA-Smog levels were down during the 153-day smog season (May1-Sept. 30) in 2001. Cold weather and more rain was a factor, but the clean air initiatives that have been implemented have also lowered pollution levels.
