#15-COMMUNITY VISIONING RESULTS, August, 2000 HARRISBURG, PA- Envision Capital Region celebrated on August 15, 2000 at a meeting to announce:
ROANOKE, VA-We reported in the July newsletter of the creation of the Carilion
Biomedical Institute. It will be the anchor tenant in the city of Roanokes
redevelopment of 75 acres into a downtown high technology park. Henry Luke facilitated a
Strategic Review of this exciting new institute in Roanoke on August 10-11, 2000. DALTON, GA-The Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership is continuing with a
plan that began at the March 2000 Healthcare Summit. The following sub-committees are
working to see if the region can create a market-based healthcare delivery system:
employers, medical providers, technology, and undeserved. RICHMOND, VA-Greater Richmond Area participants will meet on September 20 to review the 1991 Vision results and develop the priorities for a new decade. Andrew Young will be a featured speaker to help set the stage. More details in the September or October newsletter.
UNION COUNTY, NC-Union Vision 2020 began the process of establishing six Strategic Alliances August 2-4, 2000. The strategies included mentoring, skills training, crime reduction, government cooperation, comprehensive land use with nine elements and an increase in the number of jobs.
ATLANTA, GA-Metro Atlanta leads 1999s biggest job creators with 106,300 new jobs. They are on track for a similar growth year in 2000. "Industries of the Mind" technology companies are fueling the rapid growth. The US Department of Transportation has also approved the regions plan to improve air quality and will release highway funding. The creation of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority in March 1999 played a key role in this approval.
MEMPHIS, TN-The MEMPHIS 2005 Leadership Group, on August 24, will review the plan that was developed in 1996.
JACKSONVILLE, FL-The 2000 Leadership trip will be to Austin, Texas on October 26-27, 2000
SCHUYLKILL, PA-The Schuylkill/Carbon Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) led the state in creating 960 jobs and a planned capital investment at $93.5 million, according to a first year review of Pennsylvanias 12 KOZ programs.
CURACAO, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES-Curacao will celebrate their first year of Vision Implementation with "Vishon Week" August 14-18. Events include an ecumenical singing group with a song on Core Values, presentations by the Netherlands Antilles Governor, Curacao Governor, and the General Manager of the oil refinery. The General Manager of the oil refinery will be describing the importance of Core Values. There will be meetings in the neighborhoods and then three marches that will end up in the Stadium with a finale of fireworks on Friday evening.
