SAGINAW, MI-Saginaw County, MI has 35 municipalities and a population of 210,000.  In March 2002, Saginaw County announced its first Land Use Plan.  It was developed on a voluntary basis with all but three of the municipalities participating.  The plan is based on meeting the Saginaw County Vision 2020 Key Benchmarks.  The Saginaw News said in an April 2, 2002 editorial,

“ Thinking collectively about how we use our land resources is no small accomplishment.  If no other good comes out of the countywide Strategic Planning Process, Vision 2020 will have made an enormous impact on the county’s future by bringing officials together to look at the county as a unit.  But we’ve already seen Vision 2020 spark a fresh outlook.  And we have few doubts that dust won’t settle on many of its other initiatives.”   http://www.saginawcountyvision2020.org/

RICHMOND, VA-Last year, the Greater Richmond Partnership introduced the region’s new “brand”.  The “Historic Richmond Region: Easy to Love” focuses on these themes:

§         The Richmond region offers fun, easy living, affordability, and accessibility.

§         Polished by culture, the Richmond Region has trendy areas and endless pockets of discovery.

§         The Richmond Region is an historic setting that reminds us who we are as Americans. http://www.grcc.com/vision2010/

CURACAO, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES-Vishon Korsóu has an excellent grass roots outreach program.  A local bank included the following in its annual report.

“Vishon Korsóu applies a Training Alliance as one of its main means of reaching its ultimate goal.  Since there is a strong need for training, last year a special educational program was set up for a great number of volunteers in order to improve the quality of their support to others.  Not only the trainees, but also their trainers are volunteers.  In this way, the core of well-trained volunteers keeps growing, which is of great value to our society.  In 105 different groups, over 2,000 volunteers were trained to enhance their organizational skills and to learn, for example, how to handle conflicts.  Since the constructive spin-off of this special training program has been felt already in their respective organizations, Vishon Korsóu will continue this program.”            http://www.vishonkorsou.org/
