LukeVision-COLLABORATIVE IMPLEMENTATION- Report #10-March, 2000

LAKELAND, FL- Doris Lyon, Vision Director and Ron Clark, Vision Chair have worked with the Lakeland City Government to establish Strategy Benchmarks and Action Steps for 17 strategies. One of the strategies calls for annexing urbanized areas into the city. The Strategy Benchmark is to annex areas that will increase the population by 58% by 2010. Action Steps include hiring an annexation planner and placing nine areas on the November ballot. The staff prepared the Strategy Benchmarks and Action Steps during January and February and then the City Council reviewed, revised, refocused and then approved. Metro Lakeland Vision has also established Strategic Alliances for four Education Strategies. Metro Lakeland Vision’s first annual Town Hall meeting will be March 16 and their newspaper will print an annual report in April.

MONROE, NC-In January 2000, Henry Luke facilitated a Strategic Planing Retreat for Union County Commissioners and staff. The group reviewed Union Vision 2020 and adopted those strategies within the scope of operations of county government. For the highest priority Strategies, Benchmarks to measure annual progress were established and Action Steps developed for implementation.

SCHUYKILL, PA-Last July, the Schuylkill County Commissioners asked the Vision Infrastructure Team to study a possible county bond issue. On February 29, the team recommended a $10 million bond issue for Economic Development, Conservation Projects and County Government facilities. The bond money will be used to leverage State and Federal funds in some of the projects. The 13 individual projects will now undergo further public review before final consideration by the County Commission. 

WILKES, NC-Wilkes Vision 2020 has established Strategic Alliances for six Key Strategies. Each Strategic Alliance selected a chair and established Strategy Benchmarks and Action Steps. Two strategies were in Education, and individual strategies in Quality of Life, Infrastructure, Economic Development and Government. The Government Strategy resulted in setting a quarterly meeting for all elected officials in the county to review Wilkes Vision projects.

DAPHNE, AL-On March 1, over 325 enthusiastic people attended ENVISION MOBILE-BALDWIN’s second annual Town Hall meeting in Daphne’s new civic center. The group heard reports from over 14 Strategic Alliances or Vision Partners on progress on individual strategies. The Key Benchmarks were updated and historical data presented for many strategies. The newspaper ran the annual report as an insert on February 27th.

DALTON, GA-The TARGET TOMORROW VISION will have a fourth year report update session on March 28.

MINOT, ND-The Minot Vision has established six Strategic Alliances with Strategy Benchmarks and Action Steps. The six strategies include two in Infrastructure, four highway projects and a large water supply project; quality of life-leisure time activities; education -skills training; government-youth friendly government.

DALTON, GA-On March 2-3, 2000, the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership held Focus Groups and then a Healthcare Summit. The Summit was attended by over 60 people from all sectors of healthcare and both large and small employers. The purpose of the event was to attempt to slow the increase in healthcare cost while increasing the quality of service. The Partnership is pursuing Action Steps developed at the Summit. Henry Luke facilitated the events.

MEMPHIS, TN-MEMPHIS 2005 announced $1.6 billion in new projects in 1999. This is the third year that investments have exceeded the $1 billion Strategic Goal of MEMPHIS 2005.

CURACAO, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES-Henry Luke will return on March 22-24, 1999 to review strategies adopted by Vision Partners and help establish Strategic Alliances.

RICHMOND, VA-Planning is underway to review the 1991 Metro Richmond Vision in September 2000.

JACKSONVILLE, FL-In February, Henry Luke led a training session in "Problem Solving" for the Jacksonville City Council. A real live problem was used and a benchmark and nine strategies were the result.

www.lukevision.comWe have been trying for some time to increase our web sites presence on the major search engines. Alta Vista, Excite, GoTo, MSN…all have our web site in the top 30 positions based on one of our six key words. Last week, the number of weekly hits on the site increased over double the average for the year. Many people exited the site from the page hyperlinking to the 17 Community Vision web sites.
